- In 2009, the Ansaar Foundation entered into a partnership in the Thorncliffe/Flemingdon Park Neighborhood to sustain the local food bank
- A historic coalition of Muslim organizations and Christian churches has formed the new corporation known as the Flemingdon Community Food Bank
- The food bank is one of the largest in the City of Toronto- serving 2000 families a month (72% Muslims).
- The food bank is important to the diverse community beyond just distributing basic food. Its pantry creates two kinds of food boxes: one meets Halal standards and includes legumes, snacks, powdered milk and sometimes meat; the other hamper includes pasta, cereal and canned meat.

- Founding member of Multifaith Alliance to End Homelessness (MAFTEH), with 22 Faith Representatives, advocating for poverty reduction and a national housing strategy
- Active Member with ISARC (Interfaith Social Assistance Reform Coalition)
- Participated in the Ontario Ministry of Children and Youth Services Roundtable on Poverty Reduction
- Appeared before the Provincial Standing Committee on the Government’s Poverty Reduction Legislation
